Barry M were the make-up brand of my early teen years. Like many other girls I was obsessed with their dazzle dust pigments & their nail polish collection. However, as I have grown more knowledgeable to higher quality brands I realise that Barry M nail polishes really aren't everything we thought they were.
Even when I was younger I thought that their polishes took an age to dry & vowed not to buy anymore! But recently whilst shopping in Topshop, Oxford Street I spotted an amazing colour. I couldn't resist. & I hoped that maybe, just maybe they had changed their formula.
I was wrong :( Their nail polish is just as bad as it use to be. The polish is thick, becomes gloopy very quickly, takes a long time to dry, has visible brush strokes, easily chips & the surface is easily scratched & marked. I hate to be so negative, but it's all so true!
I really wish that this wasn't the case, as I absolutely love their colour collection! The colour I bought recently was Teal, and is pictured below.
Ahhh, it's so pretty! About an hour after I painted my nails in the above photos I got dressed & put on a pair of leggings. After an hour, nail polish should definitely be bone dry! But, when pulling up my leggings the polish on a couple of my fingers creased completely & smudged up the nail. By this point I also had various scratch marks on the surface (due to the sheer thickness of the polish).
Am I the only person who thinks this about Barry M hair polish?? I'd love to hear your opinions too!

I like Barry M because well it's quite cheap and I love the colours, but I agree that it takes ages to dry! I love that teal colour though!! :) xxx

I love the colours too! Hopefully they'll catch on & change the formula one day, haha xx
DeleteWell, cheap is cheap I suppose! The colours aren't too bad though, maybe if you needed a specific colour for a night out or something then it might be useful, but no good for longevity. I loved the dazzle dusts too! They still are useful if you're trying to create a look for a night out. Again with the night out, but you couldn't wear those during the day, eh?

Yeah, I completely agree with you! I wore the teal polish for a night out recently, but then took it off the next morning. I still have a few of my old dazzle dusts, & yeah I'd wear them for a night out, but they're a little much for the day time. Great minds think alike ;) xx
DeleteI find Barry M nail polish's are too thick, they don't last very long and take ages to dry. That colour is lovely though :) x x
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you agree & it isn't just me being a diva, haha. xx
DeleteI really like Barry M, they have a fab range of colours and are affordable. Mind you I use nail polish thinner to thin down any polish I find problematic, and I use a fast dry top coat so my nails dry almost instantly. Maybe you should invest in some? Also they're fab for water marbling because the pigmentation is so good! xx
ReplyDeleteI use fast drying top coats but they just don't seem to work with Barry M, as they're just do thick! I've not tried nail polish thinner though, I think this will be my answer! Thanks :) xx
DeleteI have this problem with a lot of nail varnish - probably because I tend to buy at the cheaper end of the market and you get what you pay for! I do like Barry's selection of colours though.
ReplyDeleteI've found other cheaper polishes that aren't this bad in quality. Rimmel's are really good xx
DeleteI totally agree with you! I love the colour ranges they have, I really do. But I still think £2.99 for a basic nail polish is too expensive, especially if they take ages to dry and smug so easily! I've had nail polishes that were cheaper and much better... xx
ReplyDeleteI agree! I can't remember how much they are, but Rimmel nail polishes are so much better then Barry M & they are just a high street brand too xx
DeleteI think that lately Barry M is not doing so good. The lipsticks are just awful :(
ReplyDeletexx
Flo :)
Yeah, I've heard that the lipsticks are quite drying. Oh dear Barry M! xx
DeleteI love the colour you bought but I never use my Barry M nail varnishes anymore- they just seem to be too thick and take centuries to dry- mine just end up smudging and so I tend to stay away from the Barry M! Ciate is really good though...alot more pricey

Lovely blog

Yeah same, I was just hoping they'd changed.I've never tried Ciate, they look good tho! xx
DeleteAhh! I just took photos of my latest Barry M nailpolishes to write a new post on - one of them being this one in Teal! haha. I have a good relationship with Barry M polishes in general, although sometimes I feel they chip too easily

Oh really, haha. The teal really is a great shade, it's a real shame about the formula. Yeah they do chip quite easily, which is annoying when you've spent so long waiting for them to dry ;) xx
Deletei bought Barry M nail paint in mint green and adored it! Maybe because its not a metallic shade the formula is different? i'd really recommend it!:)

I have mint green, & that is actually the best formula out the Barry M I own. Strange, maybe they did something different with the mint green polish, haha. xx
DeleteLovely colour but I know what you mean about the polish. I used to have a few but got rid of them all cos of the same reasons. I'll be sticking OPI from now on. x x
ReplyDeleteIf polish thinner doesn't then I'll be doing the same xx
DeleteI love the colour! I recently bought one of their magnetic polishes (the dark blue-ish one) and I quite liked that one, but I also recently tried one of their neons and it was really disappointing... Depends on the colour and texture I guess...
ReplyDeleteI haven't tried the magnetic ones, they give such a cool effect though! I have their crackle effects & that is fine. I think it's just their coloured polishes that area bit rubbish! xx
